Dr. Morsy is the Deputy Executive Secretary and Chief Economist of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Prior to that, she served as Director of Macroeconomic Policy, Forecasting and Research Department at the African Development Bank(AfDB). Before joining the AfDB, she was the Associate Director and Regional Lead Economist for Southern and Eastern Mediterranean at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Prior to that, she worked at the International Monetary Fund between 2003 and 2012 in various capacities across different departments including, Fiscal Affairs, Middle East and Central Asia, European, and Monetary and Capital Markets as well as Advisor to Executive Director. Previously, she worked as an Economic Advisor at KPMG Consulting implementing public finance reform project in Egypt.
Dr Morsy is an associate editor of the World Development Journal and previously served as a Member of the Economic Policy Panel for Aberdeen, a Board of Trustee Member at the London Middle East Institute.
Her research interests and publications include youth unemployment and inequality, impact of structural reforms on growth and productivity, exchange rate and competitiveness, financial crisis contagion, sudden capital stops, inflation, and fiscal vulnerability and debt.
She holds a PhD in Economics from the George Washington University, USA, a Masters in Economics from University of California, USA and a Bachelor in Economics and Computer Science from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Before joining Standard Chartered in March 2015, Patrick was Senior Relationship Manager at NCBA Bank (erstwhile NIC Bank) and Stanbic Bank for corporate clients. He has had experience cutting across different industries such as Agriculture, Manufacturing, FMCG, IT, Telcos, Commodity Trading among others.
Prior to becoming a banker, Patrick started his career as an accountant in a busy corporate environment at Coca Cola Bottling Company, Nairobi and running a micro-finance institution in Kenya.
Patrick holds an MBA from USIU, Nairobi and Frankfurt School of Finance besides having attended various Leadership programs and training. He also holds a Bachelor of Education degree from Maseno University, having specialized in Economics and History.
