Business confidence very low among Turkish treasurers

16 APRIL, ISTANBUL - Only 21% of senior treasury and finance professionals in Turkey feel more positive about the prospects for their business over the coming 12 months.

This was the key finding of the "Treasury Verdict" session taken by a live audience poll of senior treasury and finance professionals at EuroFinance's 10th annual conference on Cash, Treasury & Risk Management in Turkey, held in Istanbul.

A majority of treasurers in the country (53%) actually feel less positive about the prospects for their business over the next year, while just over a quarter (26%) think that their circumstances will remain the same.

Looking 10 years into the future, and Turkish treasurers are split as to whether the country's economic prospects will be better than the previous decade. While 44% do feel more optimistic about Turkey's economic prospects during this time, another 42% are actually less confident as to what the next 10 years will bring.

Katharine Morton, EuroFinance's Editorial Director, says: "It has been a tough year for companies in Turkey, particularly for those dealing with forex and both domestic and international geopolitical risks. However, the mood from speakers and delegates in our tenth anniversary event was that the glass is at least half full, rather than half empty."
